Our medicine of the past and the future - reconnecting people and plants
Herbal Medicine or Phytotherapy is the practice of using whole plant extracts in a holistic manner to treat and prevent disease, and increase well-being.
The person is treated as a whole, rather than simply focusing on symptoms. Underlying causes are identified and it is these that are primarily addressed, along with symptomatic relief as required. In addition, dietary and lifestyle advice may be given where appropriate.
By using the whole plant, the full range of the plant’s potential is realised; plants are a complex life form, like ourselves, and are ideally suited for use as medicines as well as food.
Using the whole plant often avoids many of the risks associated with isolated chemical extracts or synthetic drugs, as often the plant contains within it all that we need.
Herbal Medicine is the oldest system of medicine in the world and is still relied on by 80% of the world’s population. The modern Herbalist combines ancient wisdom with insights from modern scientific research, and aims to treat each person as an individual.
