About me
After University, I joined the Army as an officer and served for 6 years. I worked as a troop commander and as an Arabic interpreter before leaving in 2007. Since then I’ve taught English to adults in Beirut, Cairo and in the UK. I moved to Hereford in 2007 and after a few stints working abroad I finally settled in here at the end of 2009 and re trained as a massage therapist. As well as practicing massage in Hereford, I teach beginners French to private students in and around Hereford.
My own experience of bodywork started when I turned to yoga to help ease some of the stressful aspects of being in the Army. During my second tour of Iraq, my yoga practice was an essential, daily part of my life. Yoga taught me that through my body, I was able to calm and refresh my mind, leaving me in a better state to tackle my work. On leaving the Army I was able to explore yoga more deeply and, with the aid of massage therapy, I was able to begin to bring my body back into balance. After years of hard physical activity including load carrying, mountain walking, running, diving and parachuting, as well as the general stress of being in the Army and serving two tours in Iraq, my body desperately needed the attention! Through massage especially, I discovered that I couldn’t just treat my dodgy shoulder or my lower back in isolation. Our bodies are not made up of disparate parts that can be treated separately. I had to approach my health and well-being in a holistic way. Reconnecting to my body and to myself has been a fascinating, learning experience. Now through yoga, massage, dance, meditation, walking and swimming I’m continuing to try to come into balance and explore the self. It’s an on going, life-long process that is joyful and very exciting. Becoming a massage therapist allows me to share some of this joy and passion for life exploration through bodywork with others.
