Visiting for treatment
When a person first comes for treatment, a detailed history is taken, followed by a physical examination, paying particular attention to areas in which you are experiencing pain, discomfort or limited movement. Orthopaedic and neurological tests will be performed if needed, to rule out any serious conditions and to arrive at a diagnosis.
Types of problems treated
Osteopathy works on all muscular and skeletal problems such as back pain, sciatica, lumbago, headaches, joint pains, foot problems, muscle strains, trapped nerves and many other problems including work related injuries.
Treatments
Treatments are gentle and effective and suit a wide range of people, including the elderly, pregnant women and children. Treatment will vary with the type of problem and with the age of the person. The osteopath
works with hands directly, applying soft tissue techniques, and with chiropractic adjusters to improve joint mobility. Advice on exercises, posture and hydrotherapy may be given. A discussion on you how you can maintain a realistic level of health and avoid reoccurrence of the problem will normally take place.
The treatment aims to improve circulation, reduce muscle spasm, improve and maintain flexibility, maintain nerve supply, restore muscle and joint function and equilibrium.
