Janet James
Counselling and Psychotherapy
Janet offers an integrative a fusion of Person Centred and Psychodynamic counselling in an environment where you can explore personal issues, problems and feelings in a safe, secure and confidential setting.

Janet also offers Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), looking into our cognitive process - how we think. Highlighting the link between our thoughts our feelings and behaviour - linking these into the problems and difficulties in our lives now and is a pro-active therapy.
CBT is recommended in the NICE guidelines for the treatment of Depression and Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorders, Post Traumatic Stress Disorders.
Counselling helps clients to look at their problems, to understand them and then with the counsellor’s support find a way through, it may be a way of enabling choice, or of deciding on change or reducing confusion.

It is about empathy, openness and respect - It is more than a listening ear.
Some examples of issue's that people may bring to counselling are:

Bereavement, Loss, Anxiety, Low self-esteem, Depression, Low mood, Life crisis, Relationship issues, Suicidal feelings, Sexual abuse, Bullying, Physical abuse, Panic attacks, Eating disorders.

How long will the Counselling last?

It is recommended to have 8 sessions followed by regular reviews, and the length of time you need counselling is very dependent on the nature of our issues, occasionally one session is sufficient, to the other end of the scale where long term work is necessary.

We usually contract for 8 sessions with regular reviews.

Janet start's from the premise that we all want to achieve our full potential, e.g. a rose with the right condition (sunshine, fertile soil etc) will grow and blossom, but a rose growing in poor soil and lacking in sunlight will try and grow and be the best it can be in those conditions. Life’s journey is difficult! With many hurdles, but with counselling to help us overcome these difficulties, we look at the causes to enable us to find our own solutions.
